Famous Mexican singer Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri was born on April 19, 1970. His mother gave him the childhood moniker "mi sol," hence, "El Sol de México" (The Sun of Mexico).

Pop, ballads, boleros, tangos, jazz, big band, and mariachi are just a few of the genres that Luis Miguel has dabbled in throughout his tenure. He is the only Latin artist his age who did not break into the English-speaking market during the so-called "Latin Explosion" of the 1990s.

Life and Career

Luis Miguel is famously reclusive, rarely doing interviews or attending ceremonies. When he goes out in public, his loyal security detail keeps the fans and photographers at bay.

The loss of his mother when he was only sixteen years old in 1986 and his tumultuous relationship with his overbearing father are just two of the many personal hardships he has endured. He has three offspring from previous relationships.

In 1989, he and Mexican vocalist and actress Stephanie Salas welcomed their first child, a daughter named Michelle Gallego. He had two boys with actress Aracely Arambula, Miguel (born in 2007) and Daniel (born in 2008).

Meanwhile, Miguel has never been married.

When Miguel was young, his father was instrumental in launching his music career. Released in 1982 by the Mexican arm of EMI Records, "Un Sol" is regarded as the artist's first major commercial success. The 11-year-old's debut record was so successful in Mexico that it was certified gold.

It began a long and fruitful career that saw the young artist releasing record after album. His second album, "Directo al Corazon," was published that same year, and the following year, "Ya Nunca Mas" was released.

"Decidete" and "Palabra de Honor" were published in 1983. In the same year, he also recorded a duet of "Me Gustas Tal Como Eres" with fellow vocalist and country star Sheena Easton.

His songs were being played all over the world. After winning a Grammy with Easton for Best Mexican American Performance when he was only fourteen, Miguel issued Fiebre De Amor in 1985.

However, Miguel took a hiatus in 1986. His father had been his manager at one point, but they had a rocky relationship. Luis was frustrated by his father's poor money choices.

After switching managers in 1987, Miguel Luis began to play again. Over 2.5 million copies of "Soy Como Quiero Ser" were purchased the year he published it. The following year, in 1988, another album was released named "Busca Una Mujer," which featured the song "La Incondicional" and quickly rose to the top ten in Latin American charts. While shifting from child singer to adult, he maintained a steady output of one album per year throughout the early '90s.
