Despite slipping in the polls again, controversial Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has now announced his run for the presidency in 2024. This came after he signed into law a bill that would make it easier for him to make a run for the White House.

One of the things making DeSantis' run complicated is Florida's "resign-to-run" law which would force the governor to resign from his position should he decide to run. However, DeSantis quietly signed the bill to repeal it last Wednesday.

According to NBC News, Republican legislative leaders in the state have already stated that they would change it to ensure there were no legal concerns about DeSantis running.

The repeal of the law comes as the Florida governor prepared to announce his run on Twitter alongside Twitter CEO Elon Musk, who has been a vocal supporter of DeSantis.

In addition to taking out "Resign to Run," Florida Republican lawmakers also created exemptions to state public records laws. This would make the governor's travel and potential donor meetings opaquer. It also gave him an additional $1 million for staff raises, as this would likely keep his team together as he makes a run for the White House.

His biggest rival in the Republican Primaries, former President Donald Trump, has repeatedly pointed out that the "resign-to-run" law prevents him from running and that repealing it "totally weakens election integrity in Florida."

Ron DeSantis Presidential Run Announcement Plagued by Glitches

DeSantis has now announced his run officially after the law was signed, though the announcement itself was marred by disasters.

The Associated Press reported that the Florida governor tried to project confidence as he announced it with Musk. However, the audio stream crashed repeatedly, with most users not being able to hear him in real-time.

As the stream glitched, DeSantis stated, "American decline is not inevitable, it is a choice. And we should choose a new direction - a path that will lead to American revitalization," before formally announcing his run for the presidency "to lead our great American comeback."

Political experts pointed out that DeSantis tried to "take a page out" of Donald Trump's playbook but it ultimately did not go as planned.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk explained that the glitches happened because the number of people watching "strained" the servers. "You can tell by the mistakes that it's real," said the Twitter CEO.

Ron DeSantis 2024 Opponents React to Announcement

As soon as the glitchy announcement concluded, his political rivals for 2024 quickly pounced, including Donald Trump, who took to Truth Social to write, "The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!"

Trump added that "Ron DeSanctus can't win the General Election (or get the Nomination)" and continued, "He was, and is, a disciple of horrible RINO Paul Ryan, and others too many to mention."

Meanwhile, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley released a video to mock DeSantis being a Trump copycat and stated, "America deserves a choice, not an echo."

President Joe Biden, who is defending his seat in 2024, also weighed in, posting a link to his campaign donation page and saying, "This link works" as a clear reference to DeSantis' glitchy announcement.
