Several staff members for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis's 2024 presidential campaign have been fired, raising questions about his campaign finances. The firings came as reports of the campaign's fundraising have been slowing down as of late.

As of the moment, DeSantis is firmly in second place but continues to struggle behind former President Donald Trump in the Republican primaries. This is also despite his campaign claiming that they have raised millions in funding already.

The Ron DeSantis campaign fired less than 10 staff members late last week. This was to "reduce operating expenses," as stated by a DeSantis aide who spoke with the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

The fired staffers were reportedly "involved in event planning." However, while these staffers were fired from the campaign, they may soon join a pro-DeSantis super PAC after being let go.

DeSantis spokesman Andrew Romeo took a positive spin to the firings, saying, "Americans are rallying behind Ron DeSantis and his plan to reverse Joe Biden's failures and restore sanity to our nation, and his momentum will only continue as voters see more of him in person, especially in Iowa."

However, DeSantis has shown little movement in the polls despite raising the largest amount of money from the many Trump alternative candidates. While there is fierce opposition against Trump, his far-right policies and questions regarding his political skills and his readiness for the national stage have already raised concerns among Republican voters.

New Filing Shows Ron DeSantis Campaign Fundraising Has Slowed Down

While Trump is more popular with blue-collar conservatives, DeSantis has shown he is more popular with the richer and more well-off Republicans, having more billionaire backers than other Republican candidates despite claiming he is anti-elite with his feud against Disney.

However, CNN reported that the pace of contributions toward his campaign has since slowed, as shown by his latest fundraising numbers. While he had a strong second quarter, raising $20 million, since officially launching his 2024 bid, it quickly fell off in the weeks that followed.

The Ron DeSantis campaign took in roughly 15% from contributions that amount to less than $200 per contributor, with a large number coming from the big money donors. However, these small donations are more valuable to campaigns as they can be tapped repeatedly for contributions before they hit donation limits and show the grassroots momentum behind a campaign. Against Trump, DeSantis is struggling with this as he relies more on his millionaire and billionaire donors.

Top Ron DeSantis Advisors Also Leaving Campaign

Aside from the firings, the Ron DeSantis campaign is also doing some staff changes after just two months since it launched as the Florida governor continues struggling against Trump. His communications adviser and media director, Dave Abrams, and his external affairs officer, Tucker Obenshain, are both leaving the campaign.

According to Politico, they will now be heading an outside political no-profit group that will help bolster the Republican's campaign from the outside, with Obenshain leading the group. It will be expected to host events to help DeSantis compete in the early nominating states like Iowa and New Hampshire.
