Ohio teen, Mackenzie Shirilla, has been handed two concurrent life sentences for the murders of her boyfriend and his friend in a tragic incident that took place in July 2022, according to Fox 8.

Shirilla, who had been found guilty on 12 counts, including murder, aggravated vehicular homicide, and drug possession, was sentenced after evidence showed she intentionally caused a high-speed crash that resulted in the deaths of 20-year-old Dominic Russo and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan.

The sentencing occurred following a trial where Cuyahoga County prosecutors successfully demonstrated that Mackenzie Shirilla deliberately accelerated and crashed into a brick wall on a dead-end street within a Strongsville business park.

The crash took the lives of her boyfriend Russo and their friend Flanagan. Shirilla, then 17 years old, was found guilty of multiple charges related to the incident.

Despite the sentencing, Shirilla will have the possibility of parole after serving 15 years in prison. Additionally, her driver's license will be permanently suspended.

During the trial, Shirilla expressed remorse, stating, "I'm so deeply sorry... Dom was my soulmate. I wish I could take all your pain away."

Mackenzie Shirilla Was 'Literal Hell on Wheels,' Says Judge

Prosecutors argued that Shirilla's actions were premeditated and driven by a turbulent relationship with Russo.

Two weeks before the crash, she allegedly threatened to crash her vehicle during an argument with Russo, NBC News noted.

The prosecutors presented evidence, including videos recovered from Russo's phone, that depicted Shirilla degrading and threatening Russo, even causing damage to his property.

In response to the tragedy, Judge Nancy Margaret Russo referred to Shirilla's actions as "literal hell on wheels."

She highlighted the calculated nature of the crash, noting that it occurred in a secluded area and that Shirilla had previously visited the site.

Despite the statutory sentences for the charges ranging from 15 years to life, Judge Russo had to determine whether these sentences would be served separately or concurrently. She opted for the latter, leading to dual life sentences.

Davion Flanagan's mother, Jaime, shared her son's aspirations to attend barber school and open his own barbershop, painting a picture of a promising life cut short.

Davyne, Flanagan's little sister, emotionally appealed for a just and lengthy sentence for Shirilla, lamenting the future that her brother would never have.

Davion Flanagan's mother, Jaime, remembered her son as an amazing soul with a heart of gold. At the same time, his sister Davyne called him a role model and a source of safety and trust.

The families of both victims implored the court to ensure a fitting punishment for the Ohio teen, Mackenzie Shirilla.
