Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is facing serious legal troubles as he has been indicted by special counsel David Weiss on gun-related felony charges, ABC News reports.

This development increases the legal scrutiny of Hunter Biden, especially following the breakdown of a previous plea agreement with prosecutors.

The charges against Hunter Biden include two counts related to providing false information while purchasing the firearm and a third count of illegally acquiring a gun while being addicted to drugs.

If convicted, he could face significant penalties, with the false statement charges carrying potential sentences of up to 10 years and five years, respectively, while the possession charge could lead to a sentence of up to 10 years.

The gun shop where Hunter Biden purchased the firearm, identified as "Company 1" in the indictment and known as StarQuest Shooters & Survival Supply in Wilmington, Delaware, has chosen not to comment on the charges filed against Hunter Biden at this time.

Donald Trump Claims Hunter Biden Charges Are the Only Ones That Don't Implicate Joe Biden

In a recent post on his Truth Social platform, former President Donald Trump commented on the charges filed against President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, per NBC News.

Trump stated that these charges are the only alleged wrongdoing by Hunter Biden that does not directly implicate his father, Joe Biden.

Trump expressed concern about what he perceives as a pattern of "horrible" and "unfair" actions by Democrats, including what he believes are primarily illegal investigations or "Witch Hunts."

He suggested that these actions have opened a figurative Pandora's Box, potentially leading to significant and lasting consequences for the United States, a sentiment he described as "SO SAD!!!"

It is essential to clarify that there is no substantiated evidence implicating President Joe Biden in any of his son's legal issues, and the White House has consistently denied any wrongdoing on the part of the president.

Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, expressed his view on the indictment against Hunter Biden, considering it a starting point for pursuing justice.

He raised questions about potential investigations into money laundering and bribery and the lack of a follow-up on a Republican-asserted claim that Biden was involved in a bribery scheme, but this allegation has not been substantiated.

Grassley emphasized the importance of thoroughly investigating all facts, expressing reservations about Special Counsel David Weiss, who negotiated the initial plea deal, potentially impacting the case outcome.

Hunter Biden Indictment: How Will It Affect President Joe Biden?

The charges against Hunter Biden are set to play a significant role in the 2024 US presidential campaign, as 80-year-old Joe Biden seeks re-election, likely facing his 77-year-old Republican predecessor, Donald Trump, who is dealing with his four upcoming criminal trials.

Notably, the new charges against Hunter Biden, brought by Weiss, do not pertain to US tax law violations, Reuters noted.

An earlier agreement in which Hunter Biden, 53, would have pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and enrolled in a program to avoid prosecution on the gun-related charge fell apart during a July hearing.

The tax investigation into Hunter Biden is still ongoing, with the possibility of charges being filed in either the District of Columbia or the Central District of California, as previously indicated by Weiss.

Prosecutors allege that Hunter Biden provided false information about his drug use when purchasing a Colt Cobra handgun in October 2018.

These developments follow the House of Representatives Republicans launching an impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden related to Hunter Biden's foreign business dealings.

The White House has criticized this move as unfounded and politically motivated, as it was initiated without a full House vote.
