The Joe Biden administration has made an announcement regarding the construction of a Texas border wall that waives 26 federal laws to facilitate the construction, APAP reports.

The announcement marks the administration's first use of executive power in this manner, a tactic previously employed during the Trump presidency.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shared this information through a notice posted on the USUS Federal Registry.

The notice contained limited details about the construction, which is set to take place in Starr County, Texas, a region within a Border Patrol sector experiencing a high level of illegal entries.

Government data indicates that approximately 245,000 illegal entries have been recorded in this area during the current fiscal year.

Alejandro Mayorkas, the DHS secretary, stated in the notice that there is an urgent need to construct physical barriers and roads near the US border to prevent unlawful entries in the designated project areas.

To expedite this construction, the DHS has waived several federal laws, including the Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and Endangered Species Act.

These waivers aim to bypass time-consuming reviews and legal challenges related to environmental regulations.

Environmental advocates have expressed concerns about the impact of these structures on public lands and the habitats of endangered plants and animals, such as the Ocelot, a spotted wild cat.

Former President Donald Trump Reacts to Joe Biden's Texas Border Wall Construction

Former President Donald Trump has reacted to this development, according to The Hill.

During his presidency, Trump redirected billions in defense and military construction funds toward building a border wall, a key promise from his 2016 campaign.

Facing resistance from Congress, he resorted to using emergency powers for funding.

Early in his administration, President Biden canceled the state of emergency declared by Trump and redirected funds away from wall construction, instead focusing on repairing environmental damage caused by the wall's construction.

Trump voiced his opinion on social media, demanding an apology from Biden.

Trump stated, "So interesting to watch Crooked Joe Biden break every environmental law in the book to prove that I was right when I built 560 miles (they incorrectly state 450 in the story!) of brand new, beautiful border wall."

He continued by emphasizing, "As I have stated often, over thousands of years, there are only two things that have consistently worked, wheels, and walls!" Trump concluded by questioning whether President Biden would issue an apology, stating, "Will Joe Biden apologize to me and America for taking so long to get moving, and allowing our country to be flooded with 15 million illegal immigrants, from places unknown. I will await his apology!"

US Migrant Crisis

The US is facing a migrant crisis at the southern border, prompting the construction of the Texas border wall.

Border Patrol has reported nearly 300,000 encounters in the Rio Grande Valley sector between October and August, with over 200,000 migrants apprehended last month alone, marking the highest total this year, CNN noted.

President Biden has encountered challenges on the immigration front since taking office, particularly with a surge of unaccompanied migrant children early in his tenure.

These issues have led to pushback from Republicans and, at times, Democrats regarding his immigration policies.

A new wave of migrants is adding further pressure on federal resources, testing Biden's recently implemented border policies, and sparking criticism from Republicans and concerns within the administration over this politically sensitive issue.

The topic of migration along the southern border has remained a focal point in the Republican presidential primary field and conservative media.

Leading Democrats, including mayors of major cities like New York and Chicago, have also publicly called for increased federal government efforts to provide resources for incoming migrants.
