WWE and Netflix have jointly announced a massive deal, which will be a long-term partnership between these two companies. The deal reportedly includes the world's largest streaming platform being able to stream WWE's flagship program, Monday Night Raw, starting January 2025.

WWE announced that Raw will be streamed not just in the usual US-Canada-Mexico territories but also in the UK and Latin America, as well as other territories. Additional countries and regions will also be added over time.

In addition, WWE shows and specials outside the will also be available via the platform, and this is "inclusive of Raw and WWE's other weekly shows - SmackDown and NXT - as well as the company's Premium Live Events, including WrestleMania, SummerSlam, and Royal Rumble."

Netflix and TKO, the company that owns both the WWE and the UFC, released statements following the deal.

"This deal is transformative," said TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro. "It marries the can't-miss WWE product with Netflix's extraordinary global reach and locks in significant and predictable economics for many years. Our partnership fundamentally alters and strengthens the media landscape, dramatically expands the reach of WWE, and brings weekly live appointment viewing to Netflix."

"We are excited to have WWE Raw, with its huge and passionate multigenerational fan base, on Netflix," added Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria. "By combining our reach, recommendations, and fandom with WWE, we'll be able to deliver more joy and value for their audiences and our members. Raw is the best of sports entertainment, blending great characters and storytelling with live action 52 weeks a year and we're thrilled to be in this long-term partnership with WWE."

WWE Will Get Access To Over 250 Million Netflix Subscribers

This deal with the WWE will be Netflix's first major foray into sports and sports entertainment, as the company has not been known for its ties to streaming sporting or wrestling events.

As for WWE, the wrestling giant is expected to gain access to Netflix's roughly 250 million global subscribers should it expand to the areas not mentioned in the announcement.

The deal also was a good move for WWE's parent company, TKO, which saw its shares spike by 15%, according to CNBC. It was also revealed that actor and former WWE champion and Superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson would join its board of directors.

Questions Arise Regarding Deal Between Netflix and WWE

According to The Ringer, the deal is valued at $5 billion over a 10-year period. It also finalizes the fates of two of its biggest shows, Smackdown and NXT, with the former heading to the USA Network and the latter heading to CW.

However, there are still a few questions that arose, including what will happen to Monday Night Raw during the fourth quarter of 2024, as its deal with the USA Network will only be until October of this year. While Raw will still be streamed on Peacock, this might mean that there could be two months of Raw being available via the NBC-owned streaming service. It also raises questions on Raw's ongoing 3-hour format and whether this will continue under Netflix.
