Actor Rafael Inclán Criticized for Nasty Joke About Mexico's New Female President
He uttered a comment deemed mysoginistic by many
The name of Mexican actor Rafel Inclán is making headlines and not exactly for good news. This time the man is being harshly criticized for a comment deemed misogynistic he made in reference to Claudia Sheinbaum, the new president of Mexico.
In a meeting with the press that reportedly took place in June but only went viral now, Inclán, who was in the company of comedian Luis de Alba, was questioned about Sheinbaum's arrival to the presidency and laughingly commented: "Now we are going to have a housewife for six years".
As expected, Inclán's comment has sparked controversy, since not only the president, but women in Mexico and the whole world could feel offended by such words and the aspiration to hold a political office.
Comments of all kinds have been read on social networks, most of them criticizing him. Some assured that his humor is rooted to a macho and obsolete vision.
"You can't expect much from Rafael Inclán, whose career has been in the ficheras movies", 'These old and retrograde ideas are what Mexico no longer needs', commented some Internet users, reflecting the discontent towards the attitude of the man in question.
The description made by Inclán has been considered misogynistic and, they claim, minimizes the progress that the arrival of a woman to the presidency should represent.
Content creator Pablo Chagra, famous for his channel Chismillennial, also spoke out and, through an audiovisual material, commented that, although he is not a follower of politics, he celebrates the fact that Sheinbaum is the first female president of his country, "to me it does give me a lot of pride and hope and let's hope that her part does a great job for the country in general, but especially for women".
And, of course, he made reference to Inclán: "I know that some people talk about the glass generation, which we must endure, well, obviously it is not a very offensive joke, but it is, let's say, a bit misogynistic to put the role of only a housewife, to a woman who is in the presidency for a reason, because she has been prepared, because academically she has a number of degrees, which one would like, and thanks to the evolution and the struggle of thousands and thousands of women in Mexico she is in power".
Chagra concluded by commenting that the criticisms towards Inclán "are very strong and there are others who say that it is his comedy from when he made movies in those years, but we have to evolve because that kind of jokes have nothing to do anymore. Respect for our president, give it your best, give it your best to our country".
