Miguel Cotto is set to defend his World Boxing Council middleweight title in December, and reports indicated that the Puerto Rican is eyeing a showdown against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez or Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Cotto told BoxingScene that they are not yet making moves for his next fight, saying that he is still enjoying his victory over Sergio Martinez last month at the Madison Square Garden where he won the middleweight title.

"I'm enjoying the last victory and most of all waiting to see what happens in my career. At the moment I have not thought about anything. I'll let the tide take its course and see what it brings," Cotto said.

But when pressed to name possible opponents for his December fight, Cotto admitted that Alvarez and Chavez is on top of their list, but he quickly added that there are also other fighters that they are looking at.

"There are many names on the list, obviously Canelo and Chavez stick out, but we are waiting," Cotto said. "This is a business, my business and I will ensure the best opportunity for Miguel Cotto. But it is a fact, the Mexico-Puerto Rico rivalry can be rekindled."

Alvarez's camp previously offered a $10 million guaranteed fight purse to Cotto earlier this year, but the Caguas, Puerto Rico, native turned down the offer. Cotto said, though, that he will consider facing Alvarez in the future.

Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya recently said that they are also looking at the possibility of pitting Alvarez against Cotto, but Canelo's camp is also considering James Kirkland, Gennady Golovkin and a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

On the other hand, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. said in an interview that his son is also interested in facing Cotto even at 160 pounds.

"I particularly like the fight and my son loves the fight," Chavez Sr. said of the Cotto fight. "Cotto loves to fight, and we'll see how things progress. Julio has many options, but he is willing. Julio has changed with the arrival of my granddaughter Julia. He is training every day. It would take a lot more work to make 160 pounds but he would do it."
