"Modern Family" starlet Sarah Hyland was granted a restraining order against her ex-boyfriend Matthew Prokop, who was allegedly violent with her.

The 23-year-old actress brought the case to a Los Angeles judge.

"His grip was so tight that I could not breathe or speak," she said. "I was scared and in fear for my life."

Her lawyer, Lee Sherman, didn't give any details. Sherman just said that "the documents speak for themselves."

Hyland and Prokop were dating for five years. They first met when both auditioned to be on "High School Musical." They broke up in August, but Prokop sent Hyland texts and even threatened to commit suicide.

Hyland said she was "relentlessly bombarded" with "vile, threatening and emotionally disturbing texts and voice mails..."

Hyland's lawyer said not to expect the young actress to make comments on the situation. Sherman has advised her not to say anything, out of respect of everyone that is involved in the situation.

According to Heavy.com, Prokop moved in with Hyland when he was 19. The two were living in Los Angeles and even had a dog named Barkley Bixby.

Hyland also said Prokop was very supportive when she needed a kidney transplant.

"He helps me with my medication and takes me to doctor appointments and all the stuff that I need to do to take care of myself," she said. "Any other 21-year-old guy would not be there, I guarantee it. I am one of the luckiest people in the world to have him be there for me."

Hyland also recently may have had nude pictures of herself released, notes HollywoodLife.com.

A source added that Hyland was worried that even more images of her were going to be released. But earlier this week, Hyland had yet to confirm or deny if she was really in the pictures.
