The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Houston Rockets are reportedly interested in acquiring Minnesota Timberwolves guard Corey Brewer, ESPN reported.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Timberwolves have been shopping Brewer over the past several days with sources saying that the Cavaliers and Rockets expressed strong desire to strike a deal.

The Cavaliers have one the strongest lineups in the league as they are led by superstars LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, but they are still looking to shore up their roster. According to Stein, the Cavaliers wants Brewer to play as shooting guard and also take some minutes from James to keep him fresh for the playoffs.

"It's an open secret, furthermore, that the Cavaliers are looking to get stronger at shooting guard as well reduce LeBron James' minutes load, so Brewer would likely play multiple positions should the Cavs seal a deal for him," Stein wrote.

Sources indicated that the Timberwolves are looking for future assets in the deal for Brewer, who is averaging 9.8 points to go along with 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game this season.

Terry Pluto of The Plain Dealer said that he will be surprised if the Cavaliers surrender a first-round pick to acquire Brewer. He said that Cleveland might package their $5.3 million trade exception with a future second-round pick and Alex Kirk to acquire Brewer from the Timberwolves.

The Cavaliers and the Timberwolves have shown willingness to discuss trades with each other. During the offseason, the two squads struck a blockbuster deal that sent Love to Cleveland and promising prospects Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett to Minnesota.

On the other hand, the Rockets are also making a strong push to acquire Brewer, whom they have been targeting since last season.

Reports indicated that the Rockets tried to acquire 28-year-old shooting guard before last season's trade deadline before the Timberwolves eventually decided to keep Brewer.

Rockets coach Kevin McHale was the one responsible for drafting Brewer, the seventh overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, when the Hall of Famer was still the Timberwolves general manager.
