It appears as if the New York Knicks' 41-year championship drought will continue.

Even though the 2014-15 NBA season is just three weeks complete, the Knicks have come out flat to start the year off.

The Eastern Conference is far inferior to the Western Conference, but the Knicks haven't been able to take advantage of the watered-down competition. The Knicks are 3-8 after 11 games of play and currently sit at fourth place in the Atlantic Division. As a whole, the Knicks are seeded 14th in the East, only ahead of the dreadful Philadelphia 76ers, who are 0-10.

Playing at Madison Square Garden hasn't provided the Knicks with much home-court advantage so far. The Knicks are just 2-5 this season at home. Last season (Knicks were 37-45 overall) the Knicks struggled at home, as well, winning just 19 games and losing 22.

There's a lot of blame to go around regarding the Knicks' early season struggles.

Head coach Derek Fisher recently took a large portion of blame. Fisher experienced a tremendous playing career, most notably with the Los Angeles Lakers, but this is the first time we've seen him as a head coach. His start with the Knicks is reminding fans of Jason Kidd's rough start with the Brooklyn Nets last season. Phil Jackson is a Hall of Fame coach, but we've never seen him win a championship as a team president before.

On the court, the Knicks still have a lot of issues.

Despite having Carmelo Anthony, Iman Shumpert, Amar'e Stoudemire and J.R. Smith, the Knicks offense has been a huge disappointment so far. Surprisingly, the Knicks rank 25th overall in scoring out of 30 teams. Even the Oklahoma City Thunder have won three games without Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant this year, and the Indiana Pacers have four wins without Paul George and Lance Stephenson. Carmelo Anthony continues to struggle in late-game fourth quarter situations.

The Knicks also rank 23rd overall in three point shots made. Ray Allen is still a free agent, but the odds of him joining the Knicks are slim to none.

Defensively, the Knicks haven't been terrible, but they're not elite at getting stops. The Eastern Conference may not be very competitive, but it does have good defensive teams. East Squads such as the Chicago Bulls, Indiana Pacers, Toronto Raptors, Milwaukee Bucks, Miami Heat, Washington Wizards and even the Detroit Pistons are all allowing fewer points per game than the Knicks.

Stoudemire leads the Knicks in rebounds, but trading away Tyson Chandler opens things up down low for opposing players. Without Chandler, the Knicks don't have a reliable center.

Aside from upper management and failing to score the basketball, luck hasn't exactly been on the Knicks side. Cleanthony Early, the Knicks' second round draft pick out of Wichita State, needs knee surgery. His return is still not yet known. Point guard Jose Calderon has yet to play a single game this season because of a calf injury. The 33-year-old Spain-born point guard is a good passer, and he was expected to be the leader of the newly-implemented triangle offense.

The Knicks still have plenty of time to turn things around, but a lot of big changes are needed to twist the team in the right direction.
