The DC Universe is expanding across all platforms. and it looks like the multimedia superhero explosion will receive a warm welcome with "Krypton."

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Syfy tapped David S. Goyer, the director of "Man of Steel," to develop Superman's origin story. However, one is not sure how far the show will skew from "Smallville," the TV series developed by writers/producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, which ran for 10 seasons on The WB and The CW from 2001 to 2011.

The script, which was conceived by both Goyer and Ian Goldberg ("Once Upon a Time," "FlashForward") and will be penned by Goldberg (who will also act as executive producer), will be a drama in a similar vein as Fox's "Gotham," which tells the origin story of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and a tween Caped Crusader (David Mazouz) before he donned the cowl to become Batman.

"From Warner Horizon Television and DC Comics, Krypton takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized," a press release explains. "This drama follows the Man of Steel's grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known."

It comes just weeks after Geoff Johns revealed via Twitter that the "Titans" pilot is set to shoot next year. TNT is confirmed to be developing the pilot based on the DC Universe comic book series of a coterie of teenage vigilantes including Dick Grayson, "who emerges from the shadow of Batman to become Nightwing, the leader of a new band of heroes."

Akiva Goldsman and Marc Haimes are confirmed to be penning the script for Warner Horizon Television and DC. Fans of the animated series "Teen Titans" and "Teen Titans Go!" should be excited: Starfire, Raven and many more "Junior Justice League" members will appear. Reports also claim that Supergirl is currently testing leads at CBS for the pilot, with Greg Berlanti ("Arrow," "Flash") and Ali Adler eager to start penning the script.

The news of "Krypton" also comes days after DC Entertainment revealed the "Justice League: The Throne of Atlantis," the direct-to-DVD sequel of "Justice League: War," would be released on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD on Jan. 27, 2015. The 75-minute DC Universe Original Movie will follow the origin of the comic's most underestimated superhero, Aquaman.

"... Cyborg discovers an imminent threat in the depths of the oceans so powerful that it rallies together the newly formed Justice League," the movie's press release reads. "Meanwhile, wandering thousands of feet above the ocean floor is drifter Arthur Curry, a man with strange powers who may be the last chance to bridge the ancient Atlantean world with our own. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League must band together as they face off against warmongering Orm, an army of sea creatures, otherworldly weapons and perilous odds. ... mankind's only hope of escaping from the darkness lies with the guiding light of a man -- Aquaman!"
