What do Jesus, a superhero and a rising singing sensation have in common? It all has to do with their first-look movie trailers.

Chris Evans of "Captain America" and "The Avengers" fame is taking on a new role as an obsessed writer in "Playing it Cool."

Star of "Pitch Perfect," "Up in the Air" and the upcoming "Into the Woods," Anna Kendrick is singing once again in "The Last Five Years."

And, Ewan McGregor is playing Jesus and the Devil in "Last Days in the Desert," a film set to debut at the Sundance Film Festival.

Evan's newest film "Playing it Cool" is a huge departure from playing superheroes such as Captain America and the Human Torch. "Playing it Cool" is a romantic comedy.

"Girl on Fire" Anna Kendrick has done drama ("Up in the Air" and "Cake"), comedies ("Pitch Perfect" and "Scott Pilgrim vs The World") and even action ("The Twilight Saga"). Now Kendrick is taking on another Broadway-to-film adaptation in "The Last Five Years."

McGregor, star of the "Star Wars" trilogy, has also done comedies, dramas and action films. In his latest film project, "Last Days in the Desert," he will be playing dual roles as Jesus and the Devil.

The Wrap reports that "Playing it Cool" is about the story of a struggling writer who is disillusioned by love until he meets the woman of his dreams, played by Michelle Monaghan ("True Detective" and "The Best of Me"). The story is not your typical boy meets girl: Evans goes by the name of "Narrator," but he also refers to himself as "Me." And Monaghan is simply known as "Her."

But Evans' character discovers that "Her" is engaged to someone else. Despite her being engaged, Evans pursues her first as a platonic friend, but it quickly turns into an obsession. The obsessions then send him into these wild imaginings, The Wrap reported. "Me" will do everything it takes to be with "Her."

"Playing it Cool" is expected to debut in the first quarter of 2015.

From a superhero to a rising singing sensation, with Kendrick in "The Last Five Years." This film is based off of Jason Robert Brown's Off-Broadway production of the same name. The story follows the relationship of Jamie played, Jeremy Jordan ("Smash" and "Joyful Noise), and Cathy, played by Kendrick. Both characters have contrasting timelines, Time reported.

The audience is transported back and forth -- from beginning to end -- through the couple's relationship through singing and various flashbacks. Kendrick sings from beginning to end, Time reported.

Do not be fooled -- Kendrick can sing. Besides her time in "Pitch Perfect" and its upcoming sequel, Kendrick was nominated for a Tony when she was 12 for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for "High Society," the New York Post reported. She was also in the 2003 film "Camp," where she played a young Diva who wanted to be on Broadway, albeit at a camp for Broadway-aspiring kids.

And Kendrick will be playing Cinderella in "Into the Woods" on Dec. 25, 2014. "The Last Five Years" will debut in Feb. 13, 2015.

Both film projects for Evans and Kendrick are well known with their trailers and release dates, McGregor's film has no trailer nor public release date as yet, only a photo of him in the film "Last Days in the Desert." This film is an imagined chapter of Jesus' 40 days and nights in the desert. McGregor plays both Jesus and the Devil, ComingSoon.net reported.

As McGregor's Jesus leaves the wilderness, he struggles with the Devil over the fate of a family in crisis, ComingSoon.net reported.

This film might be McGregor's biggest challenge yet. The film is debuting only at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 25, 2015.
