LAS VEGAS - LG Electronics, makers of all things with an on/off switch, has unveiled the latest in their line of smartphones, and it's dazzling. Here at CES 2015, we're getting the first look at the LG G Flex 2, the second curved Android smartphone from LG and a marked improvement over the first one.

This new curved device is packing the full processing power of Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 810 processor. The new processor is capable of streaming and capturing 4K video and runs on an Adreno 430 GPU and boasts a Quad-core ARM® Cortex A57 and quad-core A53 with 64-bit support. The new Flex 2 has a true 1080p 5.5-inch screen instead of the 720p display its predecessor had that felt rushed to production.

LG is making some bold claims along with the launch of the new phone. The new Flex 2 is being touted as "crack-proof," but to be more specific, Dr. Ramchan Woo, head of smartphone planning at LG, said, "The probability of the glass cracking is reduced by 30 percent."

The casing is also suppose to be self-healing in a way and will allow users to buff out scratches easily. As CES begins today, LG will be displaying the scratchproof case at its booth with a wire brush -- ouch.

Pricing and official U.S. launch dates have yet to be announced, but consumers can expect the device sometime in the first half of 2015. LG has noted this device will be priced at a "premium" compared to its previous devices.

Curved smartphones are something of a risk as they are simply not what the consumer is used to. Business Week has written an all-but scathing article on curved smartphones, positing LG may just be showing off their OLED technology (which we know they love to do). Woo addressed this in his keynote: "Why curved again?" he asked. "Our biggest and simplest answer is it's more beautiful."

More from CES to come including LG's absolutely stunning televisions.
