During yesterday's World Series game between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, James Taylor performed an interesting rendition of the national anthem that mistakenly included a quick snippet of "America the Beautiful."

The five-time Grammy award winner was supposed to sing the "Star-Spangled Banner" to begin game two of the World Series. He started off, however, by singing the words "Oh beautiful..."

The singer quickly transitioned to the national anthem. His error was short-lived and almost unnoticeable, but the Internet can be quite unforgiving.

"James Taylor is great and all, but he just made up his own National Anthem," one viewer said via Twitter.

"I've seen fire and I've seen rain and at least I know which song is the #nationalanthem," another Twitter user said.

It appears that Taylor, 65, got confused for a brief moment and started singing "America the Beautiful" instead of the national anthem. The mistake is understandable considering that Taylor was scheduled to sing "America the Beautiful" during the seventh inning stretch.

"In that old man's defense, 'America the Beautiful' is a much better song and should be the national anthem. #HotAnthemTakes," SportsPickle tweeted.

"So what if James Taylor messed up? It was still beautiful," another user tweeted.

Taylor's actual performance of "America the Beautiful" was touching. He sang with his son and wife surrounded by survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing.

The St. Louis Cardinals ended up beating the Boston Red Sox 4-2. Each team is now tied in the fight for the World Series Championship.
