The Denver Broncos will try to get themselves back to their winning ways as they face Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins on Sunday, 4:25 p.m, at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver, Colorado.

Shanahan and The Memory of Yesteryears

Mike Shanahan returns to the Mile High city for the first time since accepting the job to coach the Redskins.

With the Broncos, Shanahan amassed 138-86 regular-season record and guided the franchise to two Super Bowl titles. John Elway, the Broncos' vice president of football operations, served as Shanahan's quarterback during their title run in the late 90s.

"I am looking forward to going back to Denver," Shanahan told the press ahead of their Sunday's showdown with his former team via ESPN "It's been home for me. A lot of great friends still there. It's just something you look forward to."

Manning Wants More QB Protection

Manning has been sacked five times in the last six games, and now, he's facing a Redskins team that really went after the quarterback a lot.

Washington has 18 sacks this season, and Broncos head coach John Fox sensed the need of a better quarterback protection on Sunday or else the game could wind up just lie what happened last Sunday in Indianapolis.

"I think when you get into a chuck-and-duck kind of game when you're one dimensional, especially on the road with the crowd noise and against maybe the best pass rusher in football, it doesn't go real well when you're down 19 points or 16 points," Fox told reporters.

Young But Potent

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III will always do some damage whenever he holds the football, but the emergence of rookie tight end Jordan Reed will make the Redskins even more potent on their offense.

Reed caught nine passes from Griffin and covered 134 yards with a touchdown in the Redskins' 45-41 win over the Chicago Bears last weekend.

"When you look at it coaches' talk-wise, he's wired to separate," Griffin told reporters about Jordan. "He's got good hands. And like I like to say, he's got a wide catch radius, so he can catch about anything you throw at him."
