George Zimmerman, the Florida man who was acquitted in the 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, will not be prosecuted for allegedly throwing a wine bottle at his ex-girlfriend during a domestic dispute.

On Friday, Florida state prosecutors announced that Zimmerman's former girlfriend dropped the charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence against him and recanted her statement that he threw a wine bottle at her earlier this month, reports the Associated Press.

As a result, State Attorney Phil Archer said he could not file a formal charge against the 31-year-old former neighborhood watch leader since there is no other corroborating evidence or witness.

"While it is clear that the officers had probable cause to arrest Mr. Zimmerman which was affirmed by the circuit court judge at initial appearances, the subsequent recantation by the victim of her initial statement along with new documents provided by the victim and her attorney precludes my office from proceeding further," said Archer, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

He added that the woman in the case, Brittany Brunelle, 28, is not cooperating with Lake Mary Police officers.

Police released a video of Brunelle telling cops about the wine bottle incident on the night that it occurred. In the video, Brunelle looks distressed as she revealed that Zimmerman became irrational and violent when she told him that she was going to move out of his home.

She said that when she met Zimmerman at his house, he started yelling at her and took away her phone. He then threw the phone and the wine at her.

She described him as "insane", "suicidal" and "a psychopath. ... Why that man is not locked up is beyond me," she said.

She also said that Zimmerman had become suicidal over her decision to leave.

"The man needs help. He should be Baker Acted," she said. "For the benefit of this neighborhood, watch this guy."

Since his high-profile trial and acquittal in 2013, Zimmerman has had several other encounters with law enforcement officials in Florida.

In September 2013, Zimmerman's ex-wife, Shellie Zimmerman, called authorities to report he had punched her father and was using a gun to threaten her. However, she declined to press charges.

Two months later, Zimmerman was arrested and accused of domestic violence by girlfriend Samantha Scheibe, who also dropped charges.

In September 2014, a driver reported that he was in fear of his safety after Zimmerman had an outburst of road rage. The man, who was not identified, told Lake Mary police that Zimmerman pulled up next to him in a truck and yelled, "Why are you pointing a finger at me?" WKMG-TV reports.
