The National Transportation Safety Board has determined a fatal May 31, 2014, plane crash was likely caused by the pilot taking selfies.

USA Today reported Amritpal Singh, 29, and a passenger were killed when their Cessna 150K crashed into a wheat field.

NTSB officials said a GoPro video camera was found near the plane's wreckage in Watkins, about 25 miles east of Colorado's capital, the Denver Post detailed.

"Post-accident examination of the airplane did not reveal any pre-impact anomalies that would have precluded normal operation," the federal agency said in a report released Friday. "Based on the wreckage distribution, which was consistent with a high-speed impact, and the degraded visual reference conditions, it is likely that the pilot experienced spatial disorientation and lost control of the airplane."

During a series of short flights that preceded the crash, Singh and several other passengers took selfies using the GoPro camera mounted to the plane's windshield, the NTSB found.

Investigators also suspect that Singh may have been texting during the maneuvers.

"During the climb-out portion of flight, the pilot uses his cellphone to take a self photograph. The camera's flash was activated and illuminated the cockpit area," the report detailed. "During the climb-out phase, the pilot was seen making keyboard entries to his cell phone and additional keyboard entries on a portion of flight consistent with the downwind leg."

The agency added that it was "likely that cellphone use during the accident flight distracted the pilot and contributed to the development of spatial disorientation and subsequent loss of control."

The Federal Aviation Administration last year banned the personal use of electronic devices in cockpit, according to CNET.

Singh's plane, built in 1970, had taken off for its final flight just after midnight on May 31 from Front Range Airport, according to the Denver Post. The man's family reported it missing at 3:45 a.m., and its wreckage was discovered around 7:30 a.m.

The passenger killed was a musician in town for a concert at Adams City High School, the family said. Singh was giving airplane rides to some of those visiting for the event.
