Eminem released his eighth studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2 on Wednesday. To promote the album, the rapper participated in SiriusXM's "Town Hall" series, revealing details about the MMLP2's writing process, his thoughts on social media and how he feels about being one of rap's best.

During the interview Eminem told Sway Callowahow how his DVLP-produced single "Rap God" came to be.

"The beat was so crazy when I first heard it," Eminem said. "It just made me wanna write. For some reason, that hook popped in my head, and it kind of took off from there."

"Rap God," the third single released from MMLP2 features Eminem spitting 97 words in a 15-second sequence. Slim Shady joked that his lightning quick rhymes were merely a thoughtless freestyle.

"[It took] 6 minutes. I freestyled it. That was off the top of the dome," he said laughing. "Nah, I don't know how long it took to write it. It just happened."

Eminem's last album was 2010's Recovery. Since then, social media has become an even bigger tool for musicians hoping to keep their names in people's mouths. How does Marshall Mathers deal with the power of sites like Twitter and Facebook?

"I am on social media all day, in front of a computer, blogging constantly. Yo, does someone got my laptop?" Eminem said joking.

When the laughter stopped, Eminem admitted that social media does affect him.

"Put it this way: I want to keep my finger on the pulse of what's going on, so I don't want to be ignorant in that sense, but at the same time I can't pay attention to what everyone's saying," Eminem said. " I would never be able to make music, I don't think, if I just got caught up in that 'cause I would probably get caught up in some ugly arguments with people. 'Yo, drive to my house now. What the blip?' It would consume a lot of my time, and it would be very counterproductive to do that. But I still do, and that's what's fucked up."

With his eighth studio album already spawning a platinum single ("Berzerk"), Eminem has continued solidifying himself in rap's history book. Some even consider him one of the greatest rappers of all time.

"It depends on who's conversation," he said. "If I'm in it, then I'm honored. If I'm not, then it is what it is. The thing about music is that everyone has a different opinion. Your top-five, top-10, may be completely different than mine. I think that everybody who competitively raps, which is probably most rappers, wants to be that. If you don't, then why are you rapping? Even to be thrown in that conversation by anyone is an honor."

Eminem's new album came with a special bonus track only available to those who purchased MMLP2 with a copy of Call of Duty: Ghosts. "Don't Front" features a sample of Black Moon's "I Got Cha Opin."
