Artemio Santiago, the lawyer who former "All That" star Amanda Bynes hired last October, says the actress owes him $16,000, but her parents and conservators insist she wasn't in a mental position to hire anyone at the time of her psychiatric meltdown.

InTouch Weekly reports Santiago filed documents claiming he was the 28-year-old's savior by getting her back on track and taking her medication. The "She's the Man" star reportedly hired Santiago during her stay at a medical facility in Pasadena four months ago, a time when he says she was a "mess" and refusing to take her medication

In legal documents obtained by TMZ Santiago claims that he became like an "attendant" to Bynes, bringing her personal items such as DVDs, ballet shoes, tights and acting as a personal assistant.

Some may remember, however, that after Bynes was released from the psych ward she was supposed to go to court but ended up eating lunch at a Hollywood diner with Santiago, who apparently didn't make sure Bynes got to court on time.

Meanwhile, Bynes' parents, who have control of her personal and professional affairs via a conservatorship, have argued that their daughter wasn't of sound mind to hire a lawyer at that time and are fighting the payout.

The court may agree as last October when a judge ruled Lynn Bynes, Bynes' mother, should remain as her conservator, despite the actress' objection. The judge felt the "Easy A" star lacked the mental capacity to enter into a binding contract.

Bynes spent five months at The Canyon, a mental rehabilitation facility, in 2013 when she was held under involuntary psychiatric hold for the first time. She was released and her life seemed to get back on track while under conservatorship. Once the conservatorship ended in September 2014, she was involuntarily admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

The 27-year-old reportedly suffers from Schizophrenia and Bipolar disease.
