Francisco Rodriguez is one of the best relief pitchers in Major League Baseball history.

With 348 career saves, Rodriguez has the 10th most saves all-time. Of course, Panama's own Mariano Rivera has the most saves in MLB history with 652. Rodriguez also holds the record for most saves in a season. In 2008, the Venezuelan pitcher recorded an amazing 62 saves.

But, he is still unsigned at this moment and remains one of the most notable free agents on the open market.

According to multiple reports, the Miami Marlins were willing to offer Rodriguez a "two-year contract in the $10 million range."

A very generous offer, but the Rodriguez camp is looking for $10 million per season. Obviously, the Marlins and Rodriguez are still very split on finances, but the team can't overlook his value. Despite the past injuries and rising age, Rodriguez had a strong 2014 campaign with 44 saves, his most since 2008. His 44 saves ranked fifth in the league last season.

Last season, the Marlins finished 77-85, good enough for fourth place in the National League East behind the New York Mets, Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals. Closer Steve Cishek had a great season last year with a team-high 39 saves, but the Marlins could use more depth to the rotation.

Then, there's the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers have arguably the best pitcher in all of baseball in Clayton Kershaw, but there are some questions with relief. Last season, Caribbean-born pitcher Kenley Jansen recorded a career-high 44 saves. So what's the problem? Jansen recently underwent surgery to remove a growth in his foot and he will miss the next two to three months. The Dodgers need to find a short term replacement for Jansen.

The "Los Angeles Times" explains how Rodriguez would be a great fit because he can statistically replace Jansen, and he would cost a lot less than trading for the Philadelphia Phillies' Jonathan Papelbon. Rodriguez also did spend seven seasons in the Los Angeles area with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. The Dodgers have been extremely busy looking at international players this offseason such as Yoan Moncada and Héctor Olivera, but they may have to focus on finding a relief pitcher first.

Venezuelan pitcher Johan Santana is also still a free agent. Would Santana be willing to join the Dodgers as a relief pitcher for a chance to win a World Series title? It couldn't hurt the Dodgers to try.

It's unlikely other big market teams such as the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Boston Red Sox will sign Rodriguez this offseason because of other priorities.
