In the latest violence at Morgan State University, three student athletes were stabbed after what appeared to be a confrontation.

The university president released a statement disavowing the recent violence on campus.

On Tuesday, three of the college's football players were stabbed leaving a dining hall, according to CBS Baltimore. One victim was stabbed or slashed on the chest, another on the arm and the third on the back. The assailant used a knife in his attack and attacked in the middle of the courtyard during the day.

Students panicked and screamed as they watched the scene unfold, according to witnesses. Adrian Praither, who witnessed the attack, explained the assailant only targeted one of the victims first but when his friends tried to intervene, they too were stabbed.

However, police do not believe the incident to be random but part of a dispute between two different groups.

"This incident may have spilled over from the incident that occurred after a dance," said Clint Coleman, Morgan State University spokesperson, referring to an incident over the weekend broken up by police.

The Associated Press reports Coleman said the third victim was slashed on the cheek, counter to the police report that he was stabbed on the back.

The university did not send mass text warnings to the students because "the general public was not in imminent danger because this was a fight between known parties and not a random act of violence," said university president David Wilson.

In a statement released late on Tuesday, Wilson reassured the community that these latest incidents will not be tolerated and provided an update on the latest victims.

He explained the players had been sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the assailant had been arrested.

"I want to assure the University community that we here at Morgan take the safety of the entire University quite seriously, and as such, the behaviors that we have seen from a few of our students over the past several days will simply not be tolerated," wrote Wilson," saying the students involved will be punished.

"This is not Morgan! While we understand that occasional conflicts may arise between individuals within a larger community, those conflicts are to be dealt with in an appropriate manner," he concluded.

Before Tuesday's incident and the one over the weekend, a student was arrested Friday after he stabbed his roommate with scissors after arguing over room cleanliness, according to WBAL TV.
