In "Grey's Anatomy" Episode 11, Jackson and April's newborn, Samuel, was diagnosed with Type II of osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic disorder in which bones break easily.

The couple was able to hold their son for 43 minutes before his little body succumbed to the illness. It was a heartbreaking death that left fans asking whether or not Jackson and April will try to have another child.

"I don't really know if that's what they're going to be focused on now," Shonda Rhimes told E! Online. "They will be focused on other things. If that experience is going to cause them to search elsewhere."

Sarah Drew, who plays the role of April, explained to E! Online in February that while she had "no idea" if April and Jackson would be trying for another child, the devastating loss would "solidify them as a couple."

"What I love about the episode that just aired is you really see them coming together and being a team, clinging to each other for dear life as a unit weathering something that is the hardest thing any couple will ever have to go through," she said, referencing Episode 12. "I love that the whole episode was about finding hope and finding peace in a tragedy. That is a great and wonderful gift."

Drew later revealed that the death of April's child would also shift how her character sees the world.

"Moving forward, we see a grittier side of her. She doesn't care about things that don't matter anymore," Drew told TVLine. "She's been to hell and back, and she has a scene in a later episode with a patient who does something inane to himself, and she has no patience for him, no compassion. So we'll see that side of her come out, which will be alarming to the people that know her."

What we know from the summary of "Grey's Anatomy" Episode 16 "Don't Dream It's Over" is that "April and Jackson struggle to return to their normal lives." Meanwhile, a patient's condition starts a discussion about Alzheimer's disease between Richard and Maggie, and Arizona must accept the reality that Callie is moving on.

Also in Episode 16, Meredith is scared that Derek might break his vows, like he did with his former wife, Addison.

"He's done this before," Meredith tells Alex. "Met a girl, fell in love, started over," she says, referring to how Derek left Addison to be with her.

Episode 16 airs Thursday, March 19, at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
