It was a night of shock and awe on "The Voice" Wednesday night as the field was narrowed down to the final 12 contestants.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, after the top two artists from each team were voted in by the public, team coaches Christina Aguilera, Pharrell Williams, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine were left with the unenviable task of selecting just one of their artist to remain in the competition.

Shelton's team was up first, belting out a sterling rendition of "I'll Take You There." After America's voting put Corey Kent White and Meghan Linsey through, Shelton settled on Hannah Kirby with his coach's save. Many looked on in shocked silence as Sarah Potenza, one of the season's early favorites, was eliminated.

Yahoo reports Potenza looked "furious" as she learned of her fate.

Next up, was Team Aguilera, who performed Madonna's "Like A Prayer." In the public vote, Kimberly Nichole and India Carney managed to survive, while Aguilera was left to choose from the stellar field of Sonic, Rob Taylor and Lexi Davila. She settled on Taylor, whose vocals were arguably as good as anyone's all night long.

Team Williams' "Say Something" performance followed, and America elected to save Sawyer Fredericks, the youngest performer in the competition, and fellow youngster Mia Z. That left Pharrell with the difficult decision of choosing between Koryn Hawthorne, Caitlin Caporale and Lowell Oakley. He went with Hawthorne.

Performing Rihanna's "Diamonds," Team Levine stalwarts Joshua Davis and Deanna Johnson were publicly saved, while Levine elected to hold onto Brian Johnson, spelling the end for Nathan Hermida and Tonya Boyd-Cannon, again one of the favorites of the early season.

With the countdown to a winner drawing ever closer, "The Voice" returns to air next Monday and Tuesday.
