Beyonce Knowles-Carter has released a secret album via iTunes - to which fans reacted to with too much excitement.

Even without promotion, the singer has set world record on Twitter. With more than 1.2 million tweets in a span of 12 hours, fans and random followers of Beyonce tweeted appreciation and delight - counting 5,300 tweets per minute.

According to Beyonce, her self-titled album is actually a visual album. It consists of 14 new songs and 17 videos which were shot in Houston, New York City, Paris, Sydney and Rio de Janeiro.

"When I'm connected to something, I immediately see a visual or a series of images that are tied to a feeling or an emotion, a memory from my childhood, thoughts about life, my dreams or my fantasies. And they're all connected to the music," she said in a report by Voice of America.

The secret album launch was is undeniably another huge hit with old time fans and new recruits hogging #beyonce.

Twitter is not the only social networking site that has gone haywire with the songstress' secret album launch. Fans also took to Instagram where the singer first posted the visual announcement with the caption "Surprise!" and responded:

According to The Guardian, the songstress' self-titled album has hit Top Five in the UK 48 hours after it has been digitally released. The said album sold 68,000 copies which translated to daily sales of 34,000 copies.

In the US, the secret album has sold over 550,000 albums.

The secret album will reportedly be available in CD and DVD format come holiday season.
