"The Anvil or the Hammer," the 21st episode of the hit FOX series "Gotham," revealed the motivations of killers and gangsters, and boy-scout cop Detective Jim Gordon worked against the clock to save someone he loves, Barbara Kean.

During the game changing episode, Irish hitman O'Connor aligns himself with Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin) for the purpose of killing rival mob boss Sal Maroni, who breaks the heart of the Penguin's mother after revealing that her son is a killer, furthering the Penguin's desire for vengeance. Also, in an attempt to protect Kristin Kryngle from her boyfriend Tom Dougherty, Edward Nygma stabbed Dougherty a dozen times and suffered a psychotic break. Additionally, viewers learned, beyond a reasonable doubt, that Wayne Enterprises is run by villains who were likely behind the assassination of Thomas and Martha Wayne. The Wayne Enterprises' Lucius Fox makes his first appearance on the series.

The penultimate episode was a delightful prelude to the season finale, "All Happy Families Are Alike." During the last episode, good and evil are expected to clash as the city's deadly, bloody gang wars continue. Fish Mooney will go toe-to-toe with Maroni and the Penguin as she attempts to lay claim on the city. Also, recent circumstances will bring Barbara Kean and Leslie Thompkins together. In other news, Bruce Wayne will search the Wayne Manor for any hints that his father and mother might have left behind before their deaths.

The all-new season finale of "Gotham," "All Happy Families Are Alike," will air Monday, May 4 (8-9 ET/PT) on FOX.
