"Gotham," Monday night's favorite dark fantasy drama series, may be losing some of its luster -- and its following, according to recent reports.

"Gotham," which tells the thorough and intricate origin story of Bruce Wayne, also known as Batman, has experienced a severe drop in its ratings.

With less than one season under its belt, "Gotham" managed to the gain the applause of naysayers and Batman enthusiasts. However, the April 13's episode of the series, titled "Beasts of Prey" earned 25 percent less viewers than March 2's episode of "Everyone Has a Cobblepot."

Of course, many viewers don't necessarily watch "Gotham" on live television. Instead, many stream it and some tune in later after recording the episode on their DVRs. Nonetheless, the superhero series didn't return with the strongest numbers after the series' winter hiatus. And the episode "Beasts of Prey" showed the worst numbers since the show premiered in September.

The latest episode of "Gotham" introduced a new villain, The Ogre, portrayed by Milo Ventimiglia ("Heroes"). Even this did not lure audiences after the series' lengthy hiatus. With a loss of more than 8 million viewers, show runners are undoubtedly hopeful that viewers will tune in for the upcoming episode of "Gotham," beginning with "Under the Knife," and concluding with "The Anvil or the Hammer" and the series finale "All Happy Families Are Alike." Either way, the show has all ready been approved for early renewal, so planning for the second season is already underway.

As the first season comes to a close, it's been speculated that a major character will likely be killed off before the first season finishes. It could be anyone. However, one could guess that it won't be Bruce Wayne, Selena Kyle or Officer Jim Gordon--but then again, anything can happen in Gotham.

Fox's "Gotham" airs on Monday nights at 9 p.m. ET.
