Lenovo showcased much more improved laptops and tablets in their line-up at the CES 2014 in Las Vegas. Among the many gadgets revealed in the show, the company's Thinkpad Carbon X1 was one of the most praised.

This ultra light Thinkpad - the newer generation of the 2012 version still features its trademark Carbon composition. Made of material lighter than aluminum, the Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon X1 is relatively stronger and lighter compared to its competitors.

Lenovo's carbon fiber-made laptop comes with a 14-inch touchscreen display and measures 17.7 mm in terms of thickness. It is self-dubbed as the 'lightest 14-inch ultrabook' at 1.27 kilograms or roughly 2.8 pounds, reports USA Today.

Like most next generation laptops and personal computers, the Thinkpad Carbon X1 is Haswell-integrated. As a result, the 14-inch ultrabook received a 70% boost on its battery life and now claims to last users until the ninth hour.

One of the most interesting features of this Thinkpad is its Adaptive Keyboard which is basically a liquid crystal panel placed on top of the physical Qwerty keyboard. The Adaptive Keyboard shifts and changes depending on the program/s the user is running.

"As I launch one application such as a Skype call, it will dynamically change those keys to have Web conferencing or VOIP conferencing applications. If I change that once again over to an Internet browser, it will adapt those keys to functions that are relevant," said Matt Bereda, marketing director for Lenovo's Think Business Group in the report.

The Thinkpad Carbon X1 also features camera-captured motion gestures that allow users to browse through photos, skip to the next track, pause and even mute music - all through hand gestures.

Lenovo has also integrated Nuance's voice recognition software which functions pretty much like any other gadget's voice command enabling software into the laptop. The Windows 8-powered lappy comes with a single HDMI connector, a pair of USB ports and the basic Trackpoint-Trackpad combo.

The company's Thinkpad Carbon X1 will be available by the end of January with a $1,299 starting price tag.
