"Thank you for an epic 2013," reads Microsoft's note to its users. More than a thank you note, the company has also announced its 3 million sales since launch day.

Microsoft's Xbox One is undeniably one of the most sought after next-gen gaming consoles in the market today. And though some reports claim that the Xbox One is just a tad bit shy from rival PS4 in terms of consumer demand and sales, it still has sold a whooping 3 million units.

According to Microsoft itself, "over 3 million Xbox One consoles were sold to consumers in 13 countries before the end of 2013." The demand for the game console has also reportedly been at a steady high.

The Xbox One was launched November 22, roughly a week after rival Sony PS4's launch day. The console is priced at $499.99 which already includes the Xbox One console, the Kinect sensor, the Xbox One wireless controller and the Xbox One chat headset.

Rival company, Sony, has yet to announce sales for the lower-priced PS4 game console though previous reports say that the company has managed to sell over 2.1 million units as of last month.

Sony might just reveal their year-end sales at the International CES 2014 in Las Vegas this week. Meanwhile, Microsoft keeps its Xbox One users and potential users interested with exclusive titles that will hit the console this year.

"We're excited for the year ahead and will be working hard to bring Xbox One to more fans and more markets around the globe. 2014 will be a promising year with many more great games on the way for Xbox One including 'Titanfall', 'Watch_Dogs', 'Project Spark', 'Sunset Overdrive', 'Tom Clancy's The Division', 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt', 'Destiny', 'Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare', and 'The Elder Scrolls Online', among others. More games, more features, more content, more fun - all coming your way this year."
