There has been a lot of talk about ABC’s new mystery drama, “The Whispers,” but Barry Sloane, who plays Wes Lawrence, has advised the audience not to listen to speculations and just enjoy the show.

After all, he told TV Line that those who watch it will already know “exactly what it is we are dealing with,” by the end of the show’ fourth episode.

“We do not drag the mystery out for 13 episodes,” Sloane said. “You are learning as the characters are learning. The whole thing takes place in nine days.”

The show’s first episode has already aired, and its actual plot is still unknown. It would appear that the show is quite focused on children with creepy imaginary friends. In addition, it looks like “The Whispers” also has a tinge of an extraterrestrial twist. Fortunately, as Sloane confirmed, all will be explained by episode 4.

“The first five minutes are quite shocking in the fact that a young girl endangers her mother by making her fall to a dangerous position, shall we say,” Sloane revealed to Variety. “She is doing this because she is hearing something – a friend, an imaginary friend, or whatever you choose to believe – influencing her to make this decision.”

“The Whispers” follows an FBI agent named Claire Bennigan, played by Lily Rabe from “American Horror Story. She will investigate a string of very strange incidents that involve children who share an imaginary friend named Drill, TV Line noted.

Sloane’s character is sent to Mali, Africa, to check an extremely strange geological formation there. It was so bizarre that the Malian government started to ask for help from other nations. “We have to see if these two things are linked,” Sloane told Variety, referring to a potential link between the untimely deaths and the weird structure. “Obviously, they are. Then, we will go on a mystery from there.”

At this point, everything sounds to be a bit supernatural, but Sloane has reiterated that it has a lot of relatable human drama, as well, especially when it comes to his character, Wes, a high ranking official of the United States Department of Defense.

“He's a father and a husband, first and foremost,” Sloane added in his interview with TV Line. “He is very driven in his professional life. I mean, the guy above him is the Secretary of Defense. So, he has done quite well for someone n his mid-30s. But, the story picks up at a time when his life is starting to spiral.”

His character secretly had an affair with Claire, which was eventually revealed to the public. “He is trying to rebuild the relationship with his wife and daughter,” said Sloane.

"The Whispers" airs Mondays at 10|9c on ABC.
