A group of mourners gathered at a Delaware Catholic church in Wilmington, Delaware on Friday to show their respect for the late former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden.

The public viewing was held all day for Biden, the eldest son of Vice President Joe Biden, at the St. Anthony of Padua church.

"On Thursday, Beau Biden lay in honor in the state Senate chamber in Dover," reports The Associated Press.

President Barack Obama is expected to deliver the eulogy at Beau's funeral Mass Saturday morning.

According to a press release, the service will also be held at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, starting at 10:30 a.m. ET. Beau, whose full name was Joseph Robinette "Beau" Biden III, will also lie in honor at Legislative Hall in Dover on Thursday.

Beau died at the age of 46 last weekend after suffering from terminal brain cancer, leaving behind his wife and two young children.

"It is with broken hearts that Hallie, Hunter, Ashley, Jill and I announce the passing of our husband, brother and son, Beau, after he battled brain cancer with the same integrity, courage and strength he demonstrated every day of his life," said Vice President Biden in a statement released on Saturday, according to People.

Like his father, Beau chose to work in the field of politics and served as the attorney general of Delaware for two terms. He also actively helped homeowners who were victimized by banks during the mortgage crisis. Plus, he was noted for being a champion for protecting children and working closely with law enforcement help catch child predators.

When he was 3 years old, Biden was hospitalized with critical injuries just weeks after his father had been elected to the U.S. Senate. Beau survived a deadly car crash in a 1972 car crash that killed his mother and infant sister.

In 2010, he suffered from a mild stroke, and he was first diagnosed with brain cancer in 2013.

The Biden family announced on Tuesday the creation of a new organization called the Beau Biden Foundation for the Protection of Children which "will stand up and speak out for children who are being abused," organizers said, NBC News reports.
