Taiwanese tech firm HTC has recently released a new OTA update to its flagship unit, the HTC One M9.

The new software version 1.4.401.5 will address heat issues, camera concerns and battery life of the device.

According to SlashGear, this is not the first update that HTC has rolled out to its M9 devices after complaints of overheating and camera exposure have repeatedly come to their attention.

The latest software version still works in conjunction with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, noted GSM Arena, as it is only an update for the current OS.

Anandtech shared the changelog for the software 1.40.401.5 that listed the following upgrades:

  • Greater auto-exposure balance for cameras to avoid images from becoming washed out with overexposure
  • Reduce yellow and green hues in photos taken with extreme lighting conditions to showcase a near original color of the subject and environment
  • Noise and blur reduction in low-light conditions to present a clear and sharper image
  • "Smart changing thermal environment" will prevent devices from overheating while being charged
  • Updated battery life with the upgrade on power consumed by the device when accessing social networking sites such as Facebook and YouTube

The upgrades might seem minimal but users who have limited access to power outlets will definitely appreciate the longer battery life while ensuring they still get to watch videos and access posts on Facebook.

On the other hand, those who have relied on their smartphones to capture photos and moments will no longer have to worry about doing so in dark and extreme lighting conditions with the listed adjustments.

While the heat management feature of the software 1.40.401.5 addresses heat issues upon charging, it is still not the direct answer to units that overheat upon usage.  However, the fix is already a big help to users who worry about the temperature of their phones when not in use and being charged and how it will affect the device's performance.

The update has already been made available in Taiwan a few weeks back and June 10's roll out will affect gadgets in Europe, Middle East and African regions. The American region will be able to access the update later in June, according to GSM Arena.

While no announcement has been made regarding Android 5.1 Lollipop for the One M9, it is speculated that the version would soon arrive as well.
