Troubled former NBA star Dennis Rodman has entered rehab for alcohol abuse after his North Korea trip that was rife with controversy and news making quotes from the start, his agent has confirmed.

CNN is reporting that Rodman's agent, Darren Prince, released a statement describing his compromised state, and of course, why rehab is important. "Dennis Rodman came back from North Korea in pretty rough shape emotionally. The pressure that was put on him to be a combination 'super human' political figure and 'fixer' got the better of him," his agent, Darren Prince, said Sunday in a written statement. "He is embarrassed, saddened and remorseful for the anger and hurt his words have caused."

The same site is reporting that Rodman began drinking heavily during the 30-day trip to the state, where former NBA players competed against one another for honors of dubious origin. His agent said that Saturday was the absolute worst for Rodman, because he not only was drinking in secret, he was drinking at levels "they had never seen before."

Reportedly, Rodman is in a facility in New Jersey.

According to Sporting News, the troubles began for the former NBA great when he started receiving criticism for not using his "influence" in North Korea to lobby for change in the country, especially as it relates to the relations between the two countries. After he had a meltdown on CNN, defending his decision to go to North Korea, Prince took to the airways to defend his client, claiming that the public is misinformed as to how much influence Rodman really has in the political arena. "People forget Dennis is just an entertainer and retired NBA star," Prince said. "The fact remains that a basketball game was played in North Korea live in front of 14,000 people and hundreds of millions around the world viewed clips of the game."
