Hip hop star Soulja Boy was arrested Wednesday and booked on felony weapons charges in Los Angeles after being pulled over by police who reportedly caught him riding with a loaded gun.

The 23-year-old rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was a passenger in a car that LAPD officers pulled over for running a stop sign at approximately 4:00 a.m. PST on Wednesday. Police spokesperson Rosario Herrera told reporters that he was taken into custody after a police officer found him in possession of a loaded firearm, according to a report from CNN.

The traffic stop reportedly occurred on a residential street in the Grenada Hills area of the San Fernando Valley. Soulja was booked into a San Fernando jail and held on $35,000 bail.

This is not Soulja Boy's first run in with the with the law, either.

Headline & Global News reports that the rapper was arrested in October 2011 in Temple, GA when he was pulled over and police found a felony amount of marijuana and firearms on him. He was also charged with other alleged "illegal activities," including possession of over $70,000 cash.

"Soulja was riding in an Escalade with four other men which was originally pulled over for a traffic violation," gossip site TMZ.com reports. "We're told during the stop, cops found a 'substantial amount' of marijuana and cash inside the vehicle."

According to MTV News, Soulja Boy rose to fame in 2007 after releasing his first hit single "Crank That (Soulja Boy)," which made it to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since then he has reportedly been focused on hip hop's online and underground mix tape scene.

He's currently in the process of recording a new album and recently released a new music video to the tune of his track "A Million."
