NFL player DeSean Jackson had a tough time last year after being cut by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Long Beach-born football player accused the Philadelphia Eagles of launching a "smear campaign" after he was released by the team in 2014, reported ESPN.

Jackson, who is entering his eighth season in the league with the Washington Redskins, shared his experience on the pilot episode of the BET show titled, "DeSean Jackson Home Team."

"When I was released by the Eagles, I feel they tried to paint a picture that definitely wasn't true. It was a slap in the face, coming off one of my best seasons in the NFL," Jackson said.

He added, "The Eagles tried to blow me up. That's cold how they did it... That's why I think they fired me. Have I went to jail?... I ain't done none of that."

In March last year, Jackson, who started to play with the eagles in 2008, was released shortly after an investigative report from NJ.com surfaced. The report claimed that since 2010, Jackson "has been tied to purported gang members who were involved in two homicides in Los Angeles." The outlet also uncovered an alleged "2009 arrest of Jackson for marijuana that was previously unknown."

ESPN noted that the news site had anonymous sources and that there was no mention of any insider linked to the Eagles, but based on Jackson's statement on the reality show, he may have thought that his former team was also behind it.

For Jackson, his ultimate revenge is to do well in the game. Before he left the Eagles, the 28-year-old player was performing one of the greatest seasons of his career as seen on his receiving stats: 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns.

The Redskins' wide receiver knows he did his best while at the Eagles' camp.

"I was at the top of the top. And then I got released."

Jackson is confident that he can still perform well, like what he showed so far while playing with Washington this season.

"I got a second chance to play in the NFL and I'm proving I'm one of the best receivers in the game... I had an awesome year and I'm going to have another awesome year. End of the day, I play football at a high level so I don't care too less anything about nothing. Go look up the No. 1 receiver in the NFL. I'm the No. 1 receiver. So I'm not getting caught up. I know what I can do," Jackson declared.

ESPN noted that Jackson's great performance as a Redskin could be hurting the Eagles more than what they have heard on the reality show. After all, in just two games after being cut, he reportedly helped Washington demolish the Eagles' chance at the playoffs.
