Madonna sang "Open Your Heart" during one of the most memorable Grammy moments of the night. Ryan Lewis and Macklemore sang "Same Love" and later passed on the torch to Madonna who sang while 33 gay and straight couples got married. But the Queen of Pop has been the focus of some pretty harsh controversy this past week, was her Grammy guest a way to reassure the world that she isn't a racist?

Madonna's Instagram caption to a picture of her son Rocco was less than amusing to people. Writing "disn***a" as a hashtag on the picture turned a lot of heads. Even rapper Nelly expressed his disappointment, saying that "she need to get her sh*t right." Madonna who apologized for the statement by saying that she used it as a term of endearment towards her son, has still been getting lots of fire from it. Last night at the Grammy Awards 2014, her guest was her adopted 8-year old son African son David Ritchie.

Madonna and David adorably wore matching black suits and looked great on the red carpet. But people are always going to talk. The rumor mill is saying that she specifically chose to bring David as her guest as a way of proving that she isn't a racist. David is from Malawi, and though you are tempted to believe that Madonna is using her son as a method of defense, we hope it's not true. The megastar should just learn to use her words better, since race is such a sensitive subject.

Madonna did an amazing job closing up the Grammy performance that signified such an unforgettable time in music history. Hope that Madonna's apology is sincere and that she continues working towards using her Instagram page more wisely. The ageless star has had problems with posting graphic pictures on the social sharing site before so hopefully she will be more careful with her posts and language.
