A “Star Wars” spinoff, focused on Han Solo, is reportedly already in the works, with Christopher Miller and Phil Lord of “The Lego Movie” as its directors. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the untitled “Han Solo” film will be depicting events that transpired during Han Solo’s childhood.

The “Star Wars” anthology project is slated for a May 25, 2018 release date. Plus, it is not the same movie which was originally given to Josh Trank. That particular movie deal remains director-less, to date, after Trank opted to exit the project due to some problems related to his “Fantastic Four” reboot.

According to a statement of Miller and Lord, the “Han Solo” feature film is the very first project they have worked on that “seems like a good idea to begin with,” the Star Wars website reveals.

“We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience,” the statement reads. “We pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us – the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever – in a film franchise you have loved since before you can remember having dreams at all.”

The film’s screenplay, which will be focused on Han Solo’s beginnings in the “Star Wars” universe as a thief, scoundrel, and smuggler, was written by Jon Kasdan and Lawrence Kasdan. The latter screenwriter is already quite familiar with the franchise, considering that he was one of the co-writers of “The Empire Strikes Back,” “The Force Awakens,” and “Return of the Jedi.”

The Kasdans have not hesitated in verbalizing precisely how “excited” they are to work with Miller and Lord on the Han Solo project.

“They are two of the smartest, funniest, and most original film makers around – the ideal choice to tell the story of Han Solo, one of the coolest characters in the galaxy,” said the Kasdans.

Moreover, Kathleen Kennedy, who is among the upcoming “Star Wars” blockbuster’s producers, is also ecstatic that they secured the director duo for “The Lego Movie.”

“It is not just any film maker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo,” she said. “I am excited to say we have found the perfect team to handle the task. Larry and Jon know all there is to know about the character.”
