It was first announced to the public that Sony Pictures was working on a film adaptation of “Goosebumps” during last year’s San Diego Comic-Con International event. Since then, the movie has experienced multiple changes in the date of its release, which has made its waiting fans a bit anxious.

Fortunately for those who have hoped and prayed, the “Goosebumps” film will be out in theaters just in time for this year’s Halloween season. Those who have worked hard on the “#UnlockGoosebumps” social media campaign had their efforts paid off when film makers decided to finally release the first official trailer for “Goosebumps.”

The film’s plot will focus on how the terrifying monsters featured in RL Stine’s horror books managed to come to life with a lot of help -- accidentally -- from the teen neighbor character played by Dylan Minnette of “Scandal.” Stine’s daughter, Hannah, played by Odeya Rush, will be the female lead in the film, helping the others recapture the creatures and bring them back into the books.

The role of author RL Stine will be played by “School of Rock” comedian, Jack Black. He spoke to Entertainment Weekly a year ago about what he thought of the “Goosebumps” film and admitted that he “thought it was great.”

“Well, I read the script, saw my friend, Rob Letterman, was directing it,” Black shared. “It is funny and scary – something that would be great to take my kids to, something that would be fun to make. You cannot take them to what are the big scary movies now where Satan comes out. Those are not for kids. Kids still like to get a little thrill and a little danger. So, you need projects like this."

The real RL Stine is still alive and kicking, but Black revealed that he do does not feel any pressure at all.

“This is obviously a fictionalized version of his life,” he said. “Nothing that happens in this movie actually happened to him – other than him writing all the books. So, I felt, like, I was just going to approach it as a character, doing what I thought was most dramatically interesting and right for what was needed.”

Black even described the real Stine as “a really great guy,” someone who is “really smart and funny and sweet.” However, since there will be a lot of comic horror injected into the “Goosebumps” project, he “made the character more of a, sort of, curmudgeonly dark, brooding beast master.”

Black also admitted that Stine was actually going to make a cameo appearance in the film. Sadly, he refused to give any further details about the role Stine will be playing.
