In "Wayward Pines" Episode 9 "A Reckoning," Ben Burke (Charlie Tahan) sided with the First Generation that his father, Sheriff Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), needed to perform a reckoning on Kate Hewson (Carla Gugino) and her "terrorist group."

David Pilcher's (Toby Jones) sister, Nurse Pam (Melissa Leo), gave Theresa Burke (Shannyn Sossamon) a key to access a secret underground bunker in Plot 33. Theresa discovered a computer with video files, one of which was a message dated 4020 from Adam Hassler (Tim Griffin), Kate and Ethan's Secret Service boss. "I finally reached the city," he says, and points the camera toward a destroyed Golden Gate Bridge leading into San Francisco. "There's nothing left."

Theresa finds hundreds of similar video journals from cities across the U.S. She quickly shows the evidence to Ethan and Kate. The three decide to show the video journals to certain residents and announce the truth to the others at Kate's reckoning.

Every resident in Wayward Pines attended Kate's reckoning, expecting to see her throat sliced and the alleged terrorists of her group brought to justice. Instead, Ethan told them the truth and about the video journals. His wife Theresa and a couple of residents who had seen the video journals spoke up that it was indeed true.

David watched the moment unfold on a security camera monitor from his office. Furious, he shut down power to the entire town, including the protective electric fence. In the episode's last scene, residents panicked in the darkness as Abbies climbed over the fence.

In "Wayward Pines" Season 1 Episode 10 "Cycle," the Abbies infiltrate the town and start attacking people. Ethan and Kate, armed with automatic weapons, do whatever it takes to protect the residents. The First Generation also do what they can to save humanity from the murderous mutants.

In the trailer for "Cycle," Nurse Pam confronts David about what he's done. She will ask him to stop the Abbie attack from happening, but will he?

Ethan and Kate also hunt down David before he does any more harm.

In the video clip, David is shown saying, "Go ahead, kill me."
