iPad Air 2 users, who find the device too bulky, will soon have a more suitable alternative.

A recent report on the Japanese website Macotakara stated that Apple's iPad Mini 4 will be similar to the Air 2. It will incorporate most of the hardware specs of the Air 2 but in a lighter package.

The new iPad mini 4 is rumored to be 6.1mm thick, same as the Air 2, but it will be considerably smaller.

It will reportedly employ the laminated anti-reflective display of the Air 2. It will also have the Air 2's 8 megapixel iSight camera and the A8-series processor, although the Mini 4 will support the more up-to-date iOS 9 features, which includes split-screen multitasking.

These new information came amid rumors that Apple might be shutting down its developments on the iPad Mini series this year.

According to Tech Radar, sales of iPad Mini products have been in the decline and Apple has been concentrating on its larger products as of late.

More iPads set for release?

Macotakara also reported that an update to the iPad Air itself will be revealed, the iPad Air 3.

The Air 3, however, is not to be confused with the Mini 4. The Air 3 will mostly have the same physical appearance of the Air 2. Only the internal capacities have been upgraded. The Air 3 will be powered by an A9 processor, the same next-gen processor by Apple, which will also be used for the next iPhone.

Apple's current fondness for a larger device can be attributed to the pressure it has been receiving due to the success of Microsoft's Surface Pro 3. Reports have claimed that the company will unveil its 12.9-inch iPad Pro later this year.

If Macotakara's report turns out to be true, Apple fans could be treated to three new iPads before 2015 ends. These are the Air 3, the Mini 4, and the iPad Pro.

As with all speculations, these rumors should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The new devices, whatever they are, are to be unveiled in October, UberGizmo reported.

As if that won't be enough, Apple is also set to release two new iPhones in September. These are the rumored iPhone S6 and iPhone S6 Plus.
