Also present at the parade was Pimentel, who, according to amNY, rode on the honorary float with Polanco. The actress, who plays Maria on the Netflix hit series, shared a black and white image on Instagram.

According to Vibe, Polanco and her "Orange Is The New Black" cast mates Jessica Pimentel, Jackie Cruz, Laura Gomez, and Selenis Leyva, who are all Dominican, were named Rising Stars by the Dominican Day Parade board.

"This year's honorees embody the traditions of first and second generation Dominicans, and we are honored to celebrate their contributions to the communities where we live, both in the U.S. and in the Dominican Republic," said Angela Fernandez, who is the chair of Dominican Day Parade Inc.

Polanco, Cruz and Pimentel all posted pictures of the ceremony on their Instagram accounts. Pimentel posted an image of the actresses receiving certificates from the board.

Thousands filled Sixth Avenue in Manhattan to celebrate the city's large population of Dominicans. The parade included appearances by former Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez, who served as the parade's grand marshal, merengue singer Kinito Méndez and Mayor Bill de Blasio.
