Actor Diego Luna has never shied away from trying to expand the Latin America cinematic environment in the U.S. and Mexico. He continued to look toward growth by announcing his new entertainment studio, Gloria.

He formed the studio with partners Pablo Cruz and Eric Bonniot. Gloria is based in Los Angeles and Mexico City and is working in both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking markets, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"The Latino community is hugely influential and we want to work with brands to tell stories that are relevant and real," Luna said.

The report notes that Jonas Cuaron, son of Academy Award-winning director Alfonso Cuaron, is currently working with Gloria. Alonso Ruizpalacios, who also directed Gueros is also working with the studio.

Luna previously formed the production company Canana with Gael Garcia Bernal and Cruz. That company has been a major advocate of films relating to Latin American culture. It most famously produced the "Cesar Chavez" biopic in 2014 starring Michael Pena, Rosario Dawson and America Ferrera. Luna directed that film himself.

The Chilean movie "No" was also a major production from Canana. Directed by Pablo Larrain and staring Bernal, that movie portrays the Ad campaign that defeated Augusto Pinochet in the 1988 referendum.

Canana also produced the Argentine film "Ardor" which starred Bernal and was directed by Pablo Fendrik. Latin Post's review of that movie stated that it is "undoubtedly well-intentioned as homage to [Sergio] Leone."

Other major projects created by Canana include "Rudo y Cursi," "Eva Doesn't Sleep," Luna's own "Mr. Pig" and even a Werner Herzog film starring Bernal entitled "Salt and Fire." Every single one of Canana's films has featured prominent Latin American talent in a major creative role.

Moreover, as shown by "No" and "Ardor," this company is not only limited to making movies in the US or Mexico, Luna and Bernal's country of origin. Canana has pushed cinema from all around Latin America and it is likely that Gloria will take a similar approach.

To this point, the company has produced almost 20 feature films and distributed 37 movies around the world and in Mexico between 2007-2012.
