Sony has just revealed its free games list for the month of September for PlayStation Plus member. Microsoft, on the other hand, is not to be outshined.

The Washington-based tech giant recently announced its free games lineup for the month of September for Xbox Live Gold subscribers.

Gold members on Xbox One can download "The Deer God" all throughout the month of September while "Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition" will come next. The game can be accessed from Sept. 16 to Oct. 15.

Furthermore "Battlestations: Pacific" will be available from Sept. 1 to Sept. 15 for Gold members on the Xbox 360. They can also get "Crysis 3" from Sept. 15 to Sept. 30.

What the games are all about

According to Xbox Wire, "The Deer God" lets gamers take on the role of a hunter that can switch bodies with a deer.

"Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition," on the other hand, is a full re-telling of Lara Croft's origin story, which was initially released in 2013. It makes sense for Microsoft to include the game in its Games with Gold lineup for September given that its sequel, "Rise of the Tomb Raider," will be releasing in November as an Xbox One-timed exclusive. The Definitive Edition will serve as a refresher course for fans before tackling new challenges in its upcoming sequel.

In "Battlestations: Pacific," gamers must channel their inner strategist and move carefully on huge open-world arenas, dogfights in the air, skirmishes above sea and underwater as they re-live some of the most hard-fought battles in WWII history. The game features a massive U.S. and Japanese single player campaign that offers a unique blend of action and strategy.

Meanwhile, in "Crysis 3," the hunted becomes the hunter in an open-world shooter game powered by the CryEngine. Gamers fill in the shoes of "Prophet" as he returns to 2047 New York to exact revenge to his adversaries only to find out that the city has been encased in a Nanodome created by the corrupt Cell Corporation.

Microsoft's announcement of its free games lineup followed an earlier tweet from the company's Xbox division head Phil Spencer. Spencer previously took to social media to apologize to fans for the delay of the next batch of backwards- compatible games for the Xbox One.

Microsoft will then reveal its list of 100 backwards-compatible titles come November. During the same month, all future Xbox 360 games carrying Gold titles will be backwards-compatible for the Xbox One.
