The Xiaomi Mi 5 has been shown off once again thanks to the latest online leak. This marks the unreleased smartphone's second appearance on the rumor mill this month.

The most recent render was first publicized on the Weibo page of tipster KJuma. The photo hints at a metal frame for the Xiaomi Mi 5, two loudspeakers at its base and a still indistinct connector port, which is expected to be a USB Type-C. The main takeaway from the image though is it suggests that the Mi 5 will have a curved glass back akin to the Galaxy Note 5.

Among the previously rumored hardware specifications of the Mi 5, its processor has been the most ambiguous factoid.

"We have some suspicions that Xiaomi is waiting for Qualcomm to release the Snapdragon 820 so that it could make the cut for the Mi 5. Said chipset has not been officially unveiled yet, so we don't keep our hopes high. Certainly, the rumor mill has been busy and we seem to have a couple of different specs sheet that might make it to the expected flagship," Phone Arena reported.

It has been well documented that the Chinese mobile manufacturer is in a dilemma with regards to what chipset will the Mi 5 ultimately go with. The company is debating between the aforementioned Snapdragon 820 and MediaTek's ten-core Helio X20, per GSM Arena.

If an earlier benchmarking is to be Xiaomi's basis, though, the Helio X20 is the clear choice.

GSM Arena also reported that a Xiaomi Mi 5 fitted with MediaTek's Helio X20 SoC tallied 73,075 AnTuTu benchmark points, eclipsing incumbent benchmark leaders Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge with scores just slightly above the 70k mark. Samsung devices are powered by the Exynos-7420 chipset.

Aside from undoubtedly running on Xiaomi's new MIUI 7 operating system straight out the box, Xiaomi Today lists the following hardware specifications of the Mi 5:

  • 5.3-inch QHD (1440x2560) screen with 554ppi pixel density
  • 16GB or 64GB internal storage variants with no support for expandable memory
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 16-megapixel main camera with dual-LED flash
  • 3,030 mAh battery
  • USB Type-C port support

The Mi 5 will also feature a fingerprint sensor, which was earlier hinted by a leaked promotional ad by Xiaomi.

Fingerprint scanners have become a common fixture on high-end smartphones while mid-level handsets have just started to embrace the trend this year. Xiaomi's addition of the said feature to the Mi 5 will mark the company's first crack at a fingerprint-scanning smartphone.

The upcoming flagship will allegedly make its debut on Sept. 24.
