The hottest, latest and greatest Android phones are given their red carpet premiere every year at Mobile World Congress. This year, the Barcelona, Spain-based show didn't disappoint attendees. The world's number one smartphone maker Samsung gave the people what they wanted during their Unpacked 5 event. The Samsung Galaxy S5 was the device that was 'unpacked.'

The gorgeous device is an iPhone 5s challenger and then some... It had its sights set squarely on the rumored iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 is going to be stacked with features including a heavily rumored Sapphire glass display. How is Samsung going to compete with such literally cutting edge tech?

The Galaxy S5 is going to be be the one device that you absolutely cannot live without in 2014. Like the iPhone 5s, the Galaxy S5 includes a fingerprint scanner. The main differentiator between the two scanners is that the iPhone 5s is motionless. In other words, you don't have to swipe your finger. Samsung chose to go the finger swiping route, but really it's no big deal. Just swipe in a downward motion over the home button and you're golden.

But what's the biggest feature of the Galaxy S5? Look no further than the 5.1-inch Full HD (1920x1080p) display just ready to be touched, watched, and admired. A beastly 2.5GHz quad core processor and a healthy does of 2GB of RAM will be more than enough power for the latest video games. The latest Android KitKat update (4.4.2) is also onboard.

Now what will be the must useful feature? It's impossible to say definitively at this point, but the PayPal-Fingerprint scanner integration looks impressive. MacRumors had this to say about the combo feature:

"Samsung is working with PayPal on integrating it into mobile payments, too, so that you could effectively buy apps, products, and services and authorize the transaction with a fingertip rather than a password or PIN. We found the hit-rate for the scanner recognizing our fingers was relatively high, though you do have to line your fingertip up properly: the Galaxy S5 prefers a clean downward swipe, not a sideways movement such as if you're holding the phone one-handed and sweeping your thumb across the sensor."

The optional Gear Fit with amoled screen for the Galaxy S5 will monitor things like the total steps you've taken on a given day and your heartrate. The Gear Fit band joins the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo in Samsung's fitness minded accessory product line.
