Floyd Mayweather recently announced that he will be fighting Marcos Maidana in a unification bout on May 3. But news about the upcoming fight between the two champs means Amir Khan is now out of the picture.

Of course, Khan didn't take the news nicely since he already canceled his scheduled bout against Devon Alexander to prepare for his Mayweather fight. Following the announcement of the Mayweather-Maidana fight, Khan lashed out at the unbeaten champion.

In an article on Yahoo! Sports, Khan said, "Despite having signed my part of the agreement to fight Floyd in early December, I've been preparing myself for some time that the match-up with him wasn't going to happen."

"Therefore, this announcement did not come as a surprise." Khan added, "I am however, very disappointed with Floyd and his team for not providing any explanation as to why he delayed the announcement for so long and ultimately avoided the fight with me."

Khan was even more baffled by Mayweather's decision since prior to the announcement, "Money" posted an online poll to ask his fans if they would like to see him fight Khan or Maidana.

Khan commented, "I clearly won his official poll, by a significant margin, but for unknown reasons, he decided to ignore the fans' vote and failed to keep his word, disappointing many fight fans who took the time to vote."

The boxer speculated that the reason behind his fight snub is because Mayweather is afraid of facing off against him in the ring. According to Boxing Insider, Khan said, "Mayweather is not the same fighter as he was three or four years ago. That's why he picks slow fighters, because he doesn't have the same movement as he used to."

He continued, "If you look at his last three or four fights, all of the opponents are slow, with no footwork, one-dimensional fighters. He cherry-picks them, to make himself look good."

"I mean, don't get me wrong, he is a great fighter, but he has dodged two of the quickest fighters in the business because he knows I can give him a headache," Khan said, referring to Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao and himself.
