Tristan Thompson could decide to sign a one-year qualifying offer by the end of the week if the Cleveland Cavaliers will remain firm on their offer on the table, ESPN reported.

According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst, the Cavaliers and Thompson's camp are still far from reaching an agreement with just a week before training camp begins.

Thompson, who is a restricted free agent, wants a maximum five-year contract worth around $94 million. However, the Cavaliers are only willing to offer as much as $80 million for five years. ESPN sources also added that this has been the case since July and both parties are not willing to budge.

The Cavaliers believe that their offer to Thompson is fair because it is similar to the deals signed by other key free agents this offseason. Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors and Jonas Valanciunas of the Toronto Raptors signed new contracts that will give them an average of $16 million per year.

However, Thompson and his camp believe that they could get more than $16 million next summer. Player agent Rich Paul made it no secret that Thompson is open to signing the one-year qualifying offer to stay in Cleveland in the upcoming season, but the Cavaliers should not expect the Canadian forward to return next summer.

Thompson and his camp are expecting offers that could go more than $20 million a year next summer because the salary cap is expected to increase dramatically because of the new television deal.

Michael Scotto of Sheridan Hoops reported earlier this month that at least three teams are willing to offer a maximum deal to Thompson next season. Scotto did not mention the teams, but Ric Bucher of Bleacher Report previously revealed that the Toronto Raptors are very interested in Thompson.

Thompson has played for the Canadian national team before and the Raptors are reportedly planning to acquire Canadians in the coming years similar to what they did this offseason when they acquired Cory Joseph.

CBS Sports previously reported as well that signing Thompson will be one of the Raptors' ways to attract Andrew Wiggins when he becomes a free agent in the future.

However, as noted by Chuck Myron of Hoops Rumors, there are still a lot of things that could happen between now and next summer. Thompson might decide to stay in Cleveland especially if they win a title.

Thompson's numbers could go down as well, considering the fact that he will compete with Kevin Love and Anderson Varejao for playing time, which could also affect the type of contract offers that he will get next offseason.
