What an incredible start to the 2015 Major League Baseball postseason. The wild card round is complete, and we're almost finished with the divisional series' in both leagues. The field will soon shrink to just four teams. Two of the teams remaining are the Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals.

The Dodgers and Royals aren't so different. Neither franchise has won a World Series since the 1980s, both squads are just one game away from elimination, and both will have elite ace pitchers on the mound in their next games.

Unfortunately for both the Dodgers and Royals, both of those aces have struggled in their playoff careers.

Clayton Kershaw will get the start for the Dodgers on Tuesday night against the New York Mets. Kershaw is a three-time National League Cy Young Award-winner, and he's one of the best pitchers in the game today. Unfortunately, he hasn't lived up to expectations in the postseason. Kershaw has an outstanding 2.43 ERA in his regular season career with a great win percentage of 67.1 percent. However, those numbers soar in postseason for the Dodgers ace.

Kershaw has a 4.99 postseason ERA with just one win and six losses.

That's pretty alarming considering all the great things we've seen Kershaw accomplish in the regular season. With his loss in Game 1 against the Mets, Kershaw has now lost his last five consecutive playoff starts. Kershaw's lone playoff win came against the Atlanta Braves back in 2013. However, that was followed up by back-to-back losses against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2013 NLCS.

The Mets don't have the most powerful offense in the league, but with Yoenis Céspedes, Kershaw won't be in for an easy day. Kershaw lost Game 1 allowing three earned runs in 6.2 innings. He didn't have a terrible day, but Kershaw was outpitched by Jacob deGrom. It just seems like Kershaw is routinely outpitched by the opposing pitcher in the playoffs every game.

Over in the American League, there's another pitcher trying to get over his playoff demons. That pitcher is Johnny Cueto.

The Kansas City Royals acquired Cueto from the Cincinnati Reds before the 2015 MLB trade deadline. Cueto has the second-lowest regular season ERA in all of baseball over the last five years. Coincidentally, Kershaw has the lowest. But just like Kershaw, Cueto hasn't been very impressive on the mound in the playoffs.

The 29-year-old Dominican has a 3.3 ERA in the regular season with a 96-70 record on the mound. In the playoffs, Cueto is just 0-2 in his four starts with a 5.52 ERA. Cueto wasn't very impressive in Game 2 against the Houston Astros, allowing four runs in just six innings.

Cueto will get the start in Game 5 for the Royals against the Astros.

This is a monumental game for Cueto. He's a free agent this offseason, and this could be his last chance to prove his worth for bidding teams. The Royals made a wise decision to bring Cueto on board, and now it's time for him to start performing well when it matters most.
