During an interview about her "Dance Again" documentary special for HBO, Jennifer Lopez, a music icon in her own right, revealed that it was Madonna who inspired her to become an entertainer.

The actress told Huffington Post UK, while discussing the upcoming documentary about her "Dance Again World Tour," that as a girl in the Bronx, she saw pictures of Madonna running in a park and realized that she wanted to do the same.

"It was all about Madonna for me. She inspired me to want to sing, to dance, to work hard. I saw those pictures of her running in the park, training, and I thought, that's what I need to be doing," Lopez said. "I'm a girl living in the Bronx at this point. I've never seen the inside of a gym, but I thought, I'm going to find myself a track. It wasn't a moment on stage that did it, it was a picture of Madonna in the park."

Now a star herself, Lopez is hoping that fans will be inspired by her documentary, which gives them a look into what it took to prepare and get on stage night after night while traveling all over the world.

For the Latina, it wasn't all about having fun and putting on a show. That time was also about handling a divorce from her husband of seven years, superstar Marc Anthony, and being a mother.

The 46-year-old described the tour as a form of therapy for her, helping her to pick herself up and "dance again."

She also explained that the experience was rough for her children, even if they were already used to a fast paced lifestyle lacking "normalcy."

"This is all they know," she revealed. "Now we're home and they're back in school, but at the time I was feeling my way as a single mum. Emotionally we were still going through the separation, adjusting to life without Marc, and that took time."

Regardless of the struggle, the Puerto Rican star strives for perfection when it comes to her work, according to Stylist.

"People are paying, and it has to be the best it can possibly be," she said. "You want people to have the best night of their life ... That's your role, your responsibility as a performer.
